Porcelain veneers in Encinitas are one of the most versatile, natural, and long-lasting ways to restore your smile. Not sure what to expect if you’re approved for porcelain veneers at the office of Mario A Godinez, DDS? Let’s take a look at a quick overview of the process now.
1. Consultation & Treatment Plan
To begin, you’ll schedule an appointment with Dr. Mario Godinez to see if you’re a good candidate for veneers. As long as your mouth is healthy and you don’t have any major orthodontic issues, but you have problems like teeth stains, gaps in your smile, misshapen teeth, and uneven teeth, veneers may be a good choice.
Once you’ve been approved, Dr. Godinez will begin developing your treatment plan, and will schedule your veneer preparation appointment, usually in 1-2 weeks at most.
2. Veneer Preparation
After you’re approved for veneers, you’ll come into our office to have your teeth prepared. Your mouth will be cleaned and numbed, and then Dr. Godinez will use a dental drill to remove a layer of enamel from each tooth that is getting a veneer.
This layer is about 0.5mm in thickness, and is removed to ensure the veneers do not add bulk to your teeth. Exposing fresh enamel also helps the veneers bond to your teeth more effectively.
After your teeth are trimmed, Dr. Godinez will take impressions and images of your teeth, which will be sent to a dental lab. You’ll be sent home with a set of temporary veneers to protect your smile.
3. Final Veneer Bonding
A dental lab will build your final veneers, and send them to our office within 2-3 weeks. Then, you’ll come in for your final appointment. Dr. Godinez will check the fit and finish of each veneer to ensure they look perfect.
Then, the veneers will be bonded in place permanently using dental cement. Once all of your veneers have been attached, Dr. Godinez will polish and clean your teeth for a final time. Then, you’re all done. You’ll be sent home to enjoy your new smile.
4. Veneer Aftercare
You won’t feel any significant discomfort after your permanent veneers are attached, and you can treat your veneers just like natural teeth. Brush and floss normally, and see Dr. Godinez for preventive care every six months.
To make sure your veneers last as long as possible, you should also avoid using your teeth as “tools” to help you do things like rip tape, and you should never chew non-food objects like pens or pencils. Avoid chewing very hard foods like almonds with your front teeth, and chew them with your rear teeth instead.
